"Fancy" Zodiacs
« on: April 03, 2019, 11:05:41 AM »
item # 283068214499

For the last year or two I've kind of switched from looking for typical models associated with Zodiac.  Coincidentally, prices appear to me to be climbing rather than plateauing regarding some of the more iconic models such as Sea Wolfs.  So it's probably a good thing for my wallet that my interests have changed subtly.  In any case, been on the look out for really nice examples of Kinglines, Goldenlines, & Glorious models, preferably with bracelets.

I came across this stunner recently, though I'm not really into the diamonds, and was curious what other VZ members thought of it.   Forgetting about the case for a second, I haven't seen too many of these bracelets in such good condition and can't help but be little awestruck by it's detail.  Any idea how much one of these might have sold for new back in the day?  In the '66 catalog there's a chronometer version that's missing the day indicator and diamond markers and that listed for $550.  I know probably most of the bracelets were farmed out to companies such as JB Champion, Kreisler, and NSA but still, quite a pleasant overall execution.  I just did a inflation estimation on the old interwebs and $550 in '66 is worth a little over $4,000 today.

Some of those had the diamonds added later. I have one in My Watches. I think that is the first one I have seen with the bracelet still attached. Back in the early 80's when gold went to $600 an ounce (THAT was a LOT back then, trust me) we lost a lot of good examples to scrap.

So unfortunate that a lot of amazing pieces were just melted back then. Not that you can blame the people for doing it. The price of gold was just too good.
