Title: so you want to replate your Sea Wolf?
Post by: thesheiladivine on June 03, 2011, 07:11:27 PM
Having seen some of the shiny chromed examples of bezel replating since I started getting into Zodiac watches, I was extremely pleased with the results by BWG to replate the bezel on my black Sea Wolf which was almost entirely brass.  They applied a satin finish and polished it to blend better than shiny new finishes.  The result, I think, was very near to the original luster.

:o wow--nice! i didnt know BWG could do that--OUTSTANDING! it sure looks as original as it can be. i still cant understand WHY zodiac put a cheap bezel on such a nice watch. surley a stainless bezel would not have added that much to the price!? go figure, one of lifes mysteries that will go unanswered.

Interesting. I was able to put this together from where I had it restored and then you had it replated. I have not had this done by BWG before, though he has offered it.

The price to do this was extremely reasonable.  When I first compared it to an original bezel, I couldn't tell the difference.  After talking to BWG, he pointed out that the replate was mildly brighter than the original finish.  Upon further scrutiny, I finally noticed that, but I recommend this service to anyone with a beat up bezel.

The results are super close to the original.  And it may very well be, with a few months of wear, that the luster dulls just enough to match perfectly.
