Title: The missing link has been found!
Post by: Butch on March 20, 2012, 04:38:59 PM
All,

I would like to introduce a member here who has been around for quite a while and is finally coming out of his shell. L. Ocle has made a HUGE contribution to this web site and to Zodiac collecting history. He is in Spain so his native language is Spanish of course. His English is better than my Community College Spanish back in 197...  Well, anyway, he has quite a collection of catalogs in Spanish and is in the process of scanning them for the ZodiacCatalogs.com. For those of us that do not read Spanish, these catalogs can be like a Playboy, we'll just look at the pictures.

Today he sent me one from 1977 and it has a lot of models in it that, while I knew of them, I had presumed they were made in the 1980's. I just converted it to PDF and have handed it off to Sea Wolf for the conversion to the web site.

VZ Team Members, please join me in thanking L. Ocle for this fantastic contribution to the collectors of Zodiacs all around the world! You are gonna love this when Sea Wolf gets done with it.

Welcome L. Ocle. I'm sure you'll like it here. Can't wait to see the catalogs you donated. Sometime I don't read all that well, but I am real good at looking at the pictures.
Best,
dmh

Thank you very much L. Ocle and welcome to the site. When you had mentioned earlier about the 1977 catalog you had, the first thing that came to mind was being able to see it since we don't have it here on the site. Can't wait to see it. Thanks again and thank you Butch and Sea Wolf for making it happen.

Thank you all for the warm welcome!

I don't write often because, being my English maybe better than Butch's Spanish, most often than not is not enough to follow your jokes, so I'm always afraid of missunderstanding or being missunderstood. But I'll try to participate more.

About the catalogs, well, is a way of thanking you and Butch for all the help provided here for Zodiac collection, and the thinks I learned.

I've been quite a few years collecting watches in a disordenated way... and short ago I decided finally to focus on Zodiac, although I keep a few favourite vintage pieces from other brands. Mainly 70s.

Why Zodiacs? Well, because they have a strong personality and beauty, they join this personality with enough technical interest, because they are -still, but I guess not for long- affordable... and because my grandpa and my dad left behind for me a couple of wonderful square Astrographics...

Call me Luis, if you prefer. I registered without being sure I was going to stay so I chose the first nick it come to my head. Being Le Locle Zodiac's reference town, I played with the first cap, asif  it was for Luis Ocle. But does not mean nothing to me, so call me as you prefer.

Hope you enjoy the catalog, as the other Spanish ones, when Butch and SW have them ready. About being like a Playboy to you.... uuuhhh... hard question... what would I prefer to collect? What it is in Zodiac catalogs photos, or Playboy's???  Well, let's say watches  8)

Don't worry about the text, it's mainly photos and serial numbers, and the descriptions are easy to understand watching the pics.

If you need some translation about any of the catalogs, please let me know.

I also got an old magazine from a no longer existing spanish watchmaker association in which it is a very interesting interview with the then Spanish CEO of the brand. I'll scan it to Butch, and I'll provide the translation also, if you give me some time.

Thanks again and see you here!

Thank you Sea Wolf!!
He locked the baby in the closet, tied the wife up out back, and then jumped right on converting this new catalog for online viewing. Of course, once he untied the wife she put him in the hospital so let's pray the sites don't go down for the next two weeks or so.

This is the catalog we all have been missing! It has all the models we look at and scratch our heads and say, "When was THAT Zodiac made?".  These are the models that came after the 60's and 70's models we are used to. Astorgraphics, Sea Wolfs, even Astrodigits and Quartz models. Also square Kinglines! (And I always thought these came out in the 80's.)
