Title: Help on identifying my Zodiac.
Post by: erikharr on November 21, 2011, 06:59:02 PM
I just bought this vintage piece on eBay, can't find any information about this one. Probably shuld have done a bit more research upon buying it. Can anyone verify the authenticity and ca. year of manufacture? Haven't recieved the watch yet.

That's what i thougt.. But i acually like the look on it! Have not seen the dial or the hands on any Zodiac before.  The crown is unsigned and the dial looks a bit.. Uh, new! Looks like the caseback seal is missing. Guess the case is from a Sea Wolf 35mm. Anyone know where to get a o-ring/gasket that fits it?

Aww dude..... I tried to flag this one for everybody!  :yeller

I suggest that you sign up for Team VZ and then you'll have access to the catalogs, which are VERY helpful in spotting fakes.

This may sound a little mean, but I find that any alleged "vintage" Zodiac watch for sale on ebay from Thailand, or that neighborhood, tends to be sketchy.

Hopefully this was not an expensive lesson for you.

I just ran the item # and saw what you paid for this...... :yeller

I believe the seller has indicated in the listing it is an "authentic" zodiac watch, which it definitely isn't. I suggest you email them and demand a refund. If they refuse, go to ebay security and file a complaint.

Hopefully you won't end up like the young man in The Hangover II, so we don't have to say when we speak of you:

"BANGCOCK HAS HIM."

I must say that when I first saw that watch for sale, my comment was the same as Zach Galafanakis...."I don't understand....Is this a magic show???"

:shuc :shuc :shuc   dont feel bad, i think this has happened to ALL of us at some time, just some people are ashamed to admit it!! i have been collecting for many years and YES-- i have been snookered. i would go back to the seller for a return, as this is only PART of a REAL zodiac!! most dealers are honest, but you never know til you try. as lex states you can also get ebay involved, these dealers dont want to loose their ability to sell there! there are a friggen BUNCH of fakes out there, as we call them frankenzodiacs!  very fitting, huh! always research one before you buy. it is NOT a bad looking watch, but how does it run?? the missing back seal really concerns me, why is it missing!? has the movement been serviced? butches watch guy can service it and replace the SEALS--also one on stem and i bet it is missing also. welcome to the wonderful wacky world of vintage zodiac watches. as a foot note there are 5 or more fakes just like this on the bay right now, looks like ALL the same dealer!!!

The case seems to be in good condition, same with the movement, no trace of water damage.
The seller actually did state "All my watches are guaranteed 100% autentic". (NOT)

Belive only the dial, hands, and crown are replaced. The bezel looks a bit discoloured, but does it look original? Can't see any service ingravings inside caseback..

The watch have not arrived yet, but when it comes i will check daily rates, seals, cleaning and oiling. Update you further on details! :D

Thank's a bunch for answers!  ;D Great forum! On my next Zodiac im checking up on you guys first..  :shuc
