Thanks for the welcome, everyone. And now for my first probably stupid question: I hear a lot about the Cal. 70-72. This watch has a Cal. 71 (sorry, no picture handy). Is that very different? I can't seem to find out anything about it.

Yes, it is different.
Zodiac 71 is AS 1700/01. Google it.
1700 is previous generation. Worked on lower beat rate 18000 bph, Comparing to 70-72 working on 21600 bph.
Although they both are compatible by caliber size and hand arbors. But dial layouts are different.

Ha! I have no idea what's next--I just kind of fell into this to start with. Next step is to plow through Butch's collection of online stuff, which I just subscribed to.
