Title: inherited orange sea wolf must fix! they want $750 to repair????????
Post by: rhsnyc on November 30, 2011, 03:12:32 PM
Hello,
This is my first posting on any site period so please forgive me if I mess this up!

My father gave me an vintage orange Zodiac Sea Wolf (I believe its a 1781B) all original everything when I was about 8 years old. He said he traded his friend from viet nam his favorite pen knife for it. Since then it had been sitting in a box in my house and I recently re-discovered it. I am now 34 years old needless to say I am in love with this watch not only because it was from my father but because it is simply just soooo cool!!!!!
It doesnt run so I took it to a repair shop where I live in Manhattan NYC. They apparently specialize in vintage Zodiacs and are all over the web top ratings etc.
So they opened up my watch and sadly the movement is rusted and he said I will need a new movement. He said he has them in stock and it would cost somewhere around $750 for the movement and to get the watch running.
Is this normal? What is the watch worth for this to cost so much? Any suggestions as to my options?
I am tempted to just throw down the money but since I am a starving artist its a big commitment for me.
Thoughts?

That's obscene, more than the watch is worth.  You can get a decent Seawolf with a clean movement as a donor for $150 or so and voila.

Hope it wasn't the place in Grand Central.
