Title: PLEASE HELP 1960's Zodiac Hermatic
Post by: Bookey23 on July 05, 2011, 07:12:12 PM
:new This watch was passed down to me from my Uncle, the front says Zodiac Hermatic, towards the bottom, above the six it says Custom, The back has my Uncle's Intials, Dates of Service in military, his retirement date was Jan 1966, it also has what looks like a marlin fish symbol, says Zodiac, shock resistant, water-resistant, swiss, if anyone has any info or knowledge about this type of watch, such as is it collectible, possible value, what service maintenance it takes, does it take a battery, I have inherited alot of vintage watches, these past 3 years, from my families deaths, and doing all the research on these has been difficult to find reliable info, any opinions or suggestions, or info anyone can give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

The hermetic you have there is a nice watch that will come up every now and again on the 'bay. Best thing to do IMHO is to prowl around this sites forums and gallery to familiarize yourself w/  what you got. There are others on here that know LOTS more than I do and i am sure they may respond also to your query.
Watch values are really based on what a person is willing to pay, more or less. You can see that exemplified on any auction site.
Would like to add if you plan to keep it you should prolly get with our resident Zodiac guru, aka "BWG". He is available thru  this site just click on service link.
All in all , have a good one and God bless,

Welcome Aboard Bookey.

That is a nice mid-1960's manual wind dress watch. Judging by your picture, it may even have the original band too. Do you have the boxes and paperwork to? Once serviced, this would make a nice family heirloom with a story behind it. The fish is just one of many Zodiac logos and has no specific meaning that I am aware of. You can see the Watch Repair tab for more information too.

It  is not a popular model for the collectors, so the value is probably around $75-100 for the watch itself, more if you have it all.

Interestingly enough, today there is an auction for this model on eBay. Take a look at auction 220809174246 and see what it finally sells for next week, if it sells at all.
