Title: Any information about this zodiac watch would be greatly appreciated!
Post by: RMHTripleEye on June 01, 2017, 02:05:27 PM
Hello Vintage Zodiac community, I'm new here and this is my first post. To get to the point, I recently acquired a vintage Zodiac watch from an elderly relative, and I know nothing about it. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached 5 pictures that I believe display the distinguishable characteristics of the watch.

Thanks in advance.

-late 60s/early 70s

-For that case-style, the movement is likely the Valjoux 7730/7733.  I do not believe they used the Landeron 48/148/248 in that case style, but could be possible

-Case may be plated front/steel back, the picture of the case from the back is not close enough for me to see detail

- Dial style with "Zodiac" in block is a little more uncommon than other styles, and that could be because the dial was originally signed another name from the dial manufacturer, and then printed over that to change it to be sold to Zodiac.

-Band is a style that Zodiac used on multiple models but not sure it is original to that watch in particular

That is called a 2 Register Chronograph. That will make a NICE family heirloom! Be sure to check out the Watch Repair tab, it describes your exact situation.

OOOooo... I'm envious.

That's a nice one.  Thanks for posting the photos.

Appreciate the replies! My father guesses it's worth is in the 300 range, I was guessing more in the 150-200 range. Anyone have any ideas?

Also, how do you wind this? Is it self-winding by movement? It seems to stop moving every morning when I check it.

It is a manual wind movement.  You have to firmly, but gently, wind the crown until it stops each day.  You would be winding the crown away from you.  This watch should have a power reserve of more than a day, but it is suggested that you wind it at least every 24 hours for accuracy.  However, being unserviced, the accuracy and power reserve on a full wind could vary greatly from the acceptable range.

It costs $1000+ in this state. And even more if serviced.
