Just seen on ebay and  just bought a correct price. Is very very nice and I think rare.

mov cal.72b ref 922-746b

for a long time I wanted to buy a zodiac with gold bezel -
I know there is a rectangular dial version
and dauphine hands- ref. 1763
but this is spettacular

I think they were the pre-acrylic bezel models and were official. Like you, I have seen too many of them over the years.

I have always wanted to find a copy of the catalog between the '66 and '71 I have. I think it would answer a lot of these types of questions.

General Zodiac Discussion / Orange chapter ring Sea Wolves in 722916 case
« Last post by YuriyV on September 21, 2017, 10:26:09 AM »
I always thought that white/black Sea Wolf with blaze orange chapter ring was encased in 722 946 case with Bakelite bezel.
And was sure that one in 722916 with metal bezel is Frankenstein.
Like this one: http://www.vintagezodiacs.com/zforums/index.php/topic,3028.0.html
But too many of them around to think it would be some sort of transition model.
At least now on eBay I can see several of them. With patina on orange paint in bezel markers. Which indicates it was painted many decades ago.
Thoughts?

I have the same watch, exact same configuration.  I thought it was put together too when I bought it, but when it showed up the dial was gold markers/hands/writing to match the bezel.

So this is only the second example of this model that I have ever seen.

I have not seen this configuration before. I don't think I've ever seen that dial before. But like you, given all the matching gold, the correct 3 hands, who knows? May have been a transition piece.
