Hello all,
I am a very new user to this forum ::) that I discovered just after buying a Super Sea Wolf Chronograph which I simply found very nice.
I just wanteed to share with some pics of the beast :D
Regarding this model could you please clarify for what purpose it was mainly used (military?)
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers,
Louis.
I say simply for diving, though some military personnel may have use that model. That is a very rare Zodiac model you have purchased, and it looks to be in excellent condition! You SHOULD be proud and thank you for sharing it with us.
Thanks Butch for your reply (and for moving the thread to the right section ;))
I have read somewhere on this website that this model was used by US navy and marine destruction divers.
The watch is in excellent shape on the outside (especially the outer bezel which oftens gets scratches and dings, the case is scratch free, maybe repolished but expertly done). On the inside, it is a Valjoux 726 caliber which has just been serviced with Zodiac signed on the chronograph bridge. It is I believe in superb condition and keeps good time. I would have loved to share with you guys the engine inside but it has been sealed a bit too heavily after I inspected it yesterday before the buy. I'll ask the watchmaker to open it up again tomorrow.
A gasket is there also but I believe it is a replacement. The only thing I am unsure about is the glass (mineral very probably), if it is the original one or a replacement one. Any tips on how to check that?
Cheers,
Louis.
PS: I knew somehow that this watch was not so common given the price asked :o The overall excellent condition and the servicing helped me greatly in doing the trade. The only thing I don't like is the strap that was given with it. BTW which replacement should I be looking for? A Tropic strap?
Per at least one of the catalogs I just checked the crystal appears to be the correct Zodiac part.
Good news!
Regarding the strap, any hint? There is a thread just below the one I started but I believe it is meant for more modern Super Sea Wolf, ain't it?
Your Super Chrono came with a tropic rubber or metal band I think.
The 90's super sea wolf band in a few threads down would look nice on yours for sure but is not original to it.
Some day I hope to own the Super Chrono, good find indeed.
It is for the later ones. Sorry, I don't do rubber so let's see if anyone else can help.
Thanks to you guys :D. Tropic strap it will be!
Great looking Zodiac!
Thanks!
Here is the mouvement picture as promised.
Ref number is 872 843 on the back case.
Cheers,
Louis.

Great looking Zodiac!
Imailler,
That SW chrono totally rocks! As for a strap, I'm not sure of about the chronograph version, but some catalog images of the '70s SSW diver show them on rubber "tropic" SUB straps, an Italian made strap similar to the Swiss Tropic, but with a herringbone pattern instead of the basket weave. I bought a 19mm for my SSW, and it works pretty well. You should be able to find them on either ebay or Watchrecon, using a search for "tropic strap". Here are a couple photos of mine, as an example:

Gorgeous!! The centerpiece of any Zodiac collection.
Thanks a bunch, I'll give it a go for the Italian SUB Tropic strap. I love it on your SeaWolf!
BTW, should I go for an 19 or 18 mm one? Yours seems to be fitting perfectly withe the 19mm.
Imallier;
Thought I would put in my 2 cents on this conversation. If you go to e-bay and look up 120800037497 item number you will find a metal bracelet that is nearly identical (if not original) to fit your SSW. I know this because I looked in my 1972 catalog after reading this conversation. Lo and behold I think you may have a match to original maybe Butch could opine on this also. Just my 2 cents to help.

Thanks a bunch orangecorallimorph, your help is appreciated :D. I have now purchased the bracelet! Would you be kind enough to post the SSW picture of your catalog? Ill get a Tropic later on as well.
Cheers,
Louis.

Thanks!
By any chance would anybody know if this box would correspond to the Super Sea Wolf Chrono or those came with Specific boxes by that time?
Cheers,
Louis.
All of that stuff came with a regular Sea Wolf, not the Super or the Chrono.

Sorry for the late reply. I think the 19mm is the way to go;the SSW lugs are 19mm, and the regular SW are 18mm. 1mm Narrower might not be all that noticeable, but as long as the 19mm ones are obtainable at a decent price, why take the chance?
