Title: newbie here
Post by: ireneselznick on May 16, 2011, 11:29:25 PM
hi! here's my saga.....first of all, i guess it would've helped me to have found this site BEFORE i bought the watch.

i've had a 70s era senator for many years (it was my father's, on the left). it runs fine. i wear it infrequently because i don't want to ruin it. sometime back, i decided to try & find a duplicate so that i could wear "it" and no be nervous about dad's watch. i bid on a watch from the UK a few weeks ago & lost. it went for over £250. seeing that it went for so much, i revisited a senator that was listed as a "buy it now" on ebay & bought it. i knew i'd be spending money on a new band, but when it arrived, it was slightly smaller than the watch i already had AND it was running almost 1/2 hour fast. i returned that one. then another popped up for auction & i won it(pictured on the right). problem with my latest purchase is that it only runs intermittently. i've alerted the seller & he says i may return it, but should i?

went into my local watch repair shop & he explained that parts are unavailable. (he said rolex owns the company & will only sell to its dealers.) he quoted me between $250.00-$285.00 to clean it and get it running right. i had no idea these watches were this special, but now i do.

i know i've come to the right place for good advice and i thank you.
