Title: Loose bezel (and first post)
Post by: water70proof on May 28, 2011, 05:39:49 PM
Hi everybody.  This is my first post here.  I have an Aerospace GMT  that's in pretty good shape but has what appears to be a genuine Zodiac replacement bezel that is pretty loose - turning.  It won't come off by itself, but I'd like it to turn a little more snugly.  Click ball is in place and the bezel clicks nicely.  I searched the forum and saw a few mentions of having bezels tightened, but didn't see what the actual strategy was.  There does seem to be a small groove on the inside edge of the bezel... did it originally take a rubber gasket?  Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks!

Paul

welcome to the forum. our watchmaker tightened two of mine, i dont know how he does it but it worked! you didnt mention which bezel you have ,all metal or plastic insert. none of them are as tight or have that positive click of say a more modern seiko, zodiacs even new were A SOFT kinda loose fit. my one owner sea  wolf that i have had since new in 1968 was soft even when new. you can contact butches watch guy--see repair section of forum-- and see what he says. hope this helps.  JON P

I recently got two.  The one with the chromed bezel is tight.  It's the acrylic one that's a little loose:

:o :o      WOW-that is one beautiful GMT !!!! mine has the metal bezel and skinny hands with red arrow tip gmt hand, it is a very early 60s version. your bezel looks like NOS,as the rest of the watch does. man, be proud, you have a beautiful zodiac there. be careful with that spring loaded bracelet, if you wear it a lot those spring ends can wear the lugs. better to find a 17 or 17.5 MM bracelet for it. i learned this by personal experience!!

Thanks, Jon.  I have the original bracelet but it will take a bit of work to get it in wearing shape.  This old adjustable 16mm won't be on here long.

:o great to hear you DO have the original bracelet--that is becoming very rare, it always make me wonder where ALL the original zodiac bracelets went!! i just had to pay 80.00 for an original jubilee style  jbc for my white dial SW, but it is like nos and i jumped on it in a flash. just being in the right place at the right moment. i know it will never happen again. what is wrong with your bracelet? is it the jubilee style JBC or the one with the springs? hope you get them back together soon.
