21 jewel Zodiac Movements

Now here is something interesting that BWG just sent me. Most of our movements are 17 jewel, and each serves a function. There are some 21 jeweled movements though, but evidently all the extra jewels are merely there for a legal requirement and serve no function. I am not saying this is true of all 21 jeweled Zodiac movements, but BWG did send me 2 examples of a caliber 72 and a 70-72.

Here is a good example of a 21 Jewel 70/72. They added jewels to the top settings of the reverser wheels, and a jewel to the underside of the one reverser wheel that usually does not have one (so there are 3 of the extra ones), but then they put a decorative jewel out on the end of the rotor assembly plate.  Meanwhile they left the center wheel unjeweled, and the top setting of the 3rd wheel still a metal as well.

And that IS her watch you posted a picture of in the forum, right? As in you got her permission to use her picture, right?

Correct me if im wrong Butch - but on 1st shot i see 25!!! jewels...

That is the point here. While it says 21 jewels, most if not all above 17 are useless.
