Astrographic with off center crystal marking.

Hello

My first post here.

I have an Astrographic. It´s the one with the oval case in stainless steel. The dial says Zodiac Astrographic, but not SST. The caliber is the high beat 88. It ticks away nicely and I have it as a day-to-day watch.

Now for the question. The crystal is original with the proper markings on it, but the Zodiac logo i the center of the crystal is really off center, so much that you can actually see some of black central disc of the "hands" wich the logo is supposed to cover.

Was this a common thing with the astrographics, to have this misprinted crystals?

The printing seems solid enough, it´s not like it is a simple sticker that could have shifted in place during the years.

It seems strange that this watch passed quality control, and even stranger that it was sold. I´m not the original owner, the watch is older than I am, but it has been used a lot, as is evident from the case, crystal and the original band - so it is not some new old stock that was discarded originally.

Thankful for any information.

Best Regards Christopher

While I have seen something similar before, it was certainly not normal. Can you post a picture of it?

Oh, yes, and welcome to the forum!

That is a shame. You have one of the very early ones there, before all of the watches with 88/86 high beat movement were rebranded as Zodiac SST models.

The good news is that BWG can help you with replacing the crystal should you not want to leave it as is.

So replacement crystals are still avaliably?

I actually kind of like it (mayby the defect crystal makes it a collectibly...) but I might want to change it someday, it is really scratched.

How would I go about if I wanted to change it, and what would the cost be?

Thank you for the reply.
