Not looking to buy or sell, just to identify

My brother passed away 14 years ago.  Today I was going through a carton I had saved of things from him, and found this Zodiac.  It's 35mm without the crown, and it's in excellent shape, in fact it immediately started just from me picking it up.  To my ear, it sounds like the movement is 18000 vph.  I can't find anything just like it from looking on the web, and I'd love to know what the model is and how old it is.  I can't imagine him having bought is used, he wasn't into watches, and it doesn't look like a redial to me in any case.

I have no desire to sell it, I will keep it as a memory, but I'd love to know more about it.  Any help would be appreciated!

Looks like Augustus #3098 model to me. As seen in 1966 Zodiac Catalog. Original except bracelet. Nice condition.
Give it a service to decades of service in good health for years to come. So you can wear it time to time as heirloom.

Thank you!  That's a little earlier than I would have expected--my brother only would have been 13 at the time, but perhaps it was a present.

Odd--when I Google "Zodiac Augustus" I don't get any pictures of a watch.  Is it that unusual a model?

Yes, I will have it serviced at keep it to wear on occasion.

Consider to subscribe to Vintage Zodiac Catalog service on this site (link is on this page above ).
Chances to find detailed information about old Zodiac models using Internet search are slim.

If anyone is interested, here are pictures of the inside (took it to my watchmaker today), which looks quite pristine.  The reference number is a little hard to read in this shot, but it's 713 756.  I'm going to have it serviced, of course.

Thank you for posting the watch, photographs, and back story.

It's an appealing watch.
