worth repairing

I bought this watch back in 1995, a grad gift to myself.  Its had a rough life now needs new hands, new dial and the crown screw down is broken.  I used to have it serviced by a family friend that was a retired watch guy.  It wasn't until after his death and sent it to a proper swiss watch repair I found out what damage was done.  The seals for the case and the crown were missing, and way to much grease used inside.  Was told by the repair facility that because of the broken case that the unit was unrepairable, but I see on this site someone puts new screw down and crown in the case.  Don't know if it worth repairing or just replace.  Don't know how to post pics. Thanks

It is a watch worth saving, but depends on if you want to invest the money to do so.  You will have less money invested, and a better watch in the end, than if you went out and bought a new Swiss automatic from comparable brands today.
