Watch Stories / My Sea-Chron
Last post by mgfish - January 31, 2023, 01:18:16 PM
In 1969 My parents gave me a Zodiac Sea-Chron for my 21st birthday, I love that watch but it has been in my drawer for a number of years and recently I took it to a Jewelers shop just to have it looked at and maybe serviced, well the watch guy flipped and showed it to everyone in the store, they do have a guy and I'm having it serviced and when it's done I'm going to give it to my Grandson for graduation I now he will cherish it and maybe some day give it to his son.

Great watch, you are very lucky to have it.

Modern day Zodiac has little connection with Zodiac before 1979, since the brand changed ownership several times and are most likely unable to help you. Instead you should look out for a vintage Zodiac specialists. This site recommends one if you are US based, you should be able to find the contact info somewhere on this site.

For me, this era of the Zodiac brand is a black hole. The period from the Calames to Monnier owning the brand has always been hard to find anything out about. I found one resouce that mentioned DIXI buying the brand and that is about it. Aside from the 80's catalogs with the Rado Look A Like watches. I personally await your next post with bated breath sir.

Thx, Butch

Hi all,

I'm updating this thread with some news - a teaser if you like. Through stubborn research and with the use of my limited knowledge of French, I have recently come across a reliable source for information about Zodiac. Many details - especially about the period leading up to the take-over by Dixi in 1979 - that were until now unclear to me or unconfirmed now seem pretty certain. Personal details about the Calames that I out of respect have refrained from sharing were actually public at the time.

I look forward to sharing this with you all in due time - I need to translate and put it together in an article or post.

So... stay tuned, I guess.

Hello! I was going through some old things with my dad and he stumbled on the watch he wore for most of his career - a reverse panda Zodiac chronograph. i'm a bit of a watch guy and fell in love the dial and case size immediately. He's given it to me and I'd like to learn as much about it as I can. I know I'm going to want to have it serviced (overhaul) and would probably prefer to have Zodiac do the actual work. I've been trying to get in touch with their customer service but it hasn't been an easy process (still waiting for them to call me back). The stem is very pitted and needs to be replaced and the movement is loose inside. Thanks for the any info! Great to see there's a community of Zodiac enthusiasts out there!

Just a friendly reminder to do your research and take a long look at that potential next purchase. Caveat Emptor

Considering where the movement is signed (the rotor) and it is swappable to any of those calibers (70-72, 72B, 74, 75, 75B, 86, 88D etc), it is pretty common to find movements incorrectly signed as these parts have been changed.

Most sellers don't seem to care as long as they can get a working rotor/rotor assembly on it and get it sold to someone....
