Title: When did Zodiac end the use of Radium on watch faces?
Post by: VinSW on February 11, 2020, 10:04:58 PM
From what i have read online ,Radium was first used ,then Tritium and now the non toxic luminous paints.
The US military used Radium for many years after it was well known to be a rather toxic substance. I have a US military aircraft dash  clock that was from the 1960's.There is a statement printed on the back "Radium removed" or something to that effect.
So when did  Zodiac switch from Radium to ..what next Tritrium or other luminous paints?

It was in early 1960s. Dials, marked SWISS correspond usually to Radium bearing.
Tritium dials marked T SWISS T.

I wondered what the" T" on both sides of the "Swiss" meant.
Thanks.
