Title: Zodiac Chronograph - Surfboard
Post by: ndpadgett on December 23, 2018, 02:34:21 PM
Hi,

Can anyone confirm whether or not the inner bezel on this Zodiac is original. I cannot find any reference to a yachting Zodiac from this era. The hands are not original, I know but the bezel?????

Cheers,

Neil.

Definitely not all original, as are most of the watches that come out of Peru and Uruguay.  That inner bezel is to an Omega 176.0010 Yachting.  I have worked on both the Omega and the Zodiac (I have the Zodiac Chrono in my collection) and they have similar size crystals/dials, so that is how they were able to swap them and still have it appear to be a correct fitment.

Almost forgot, the Minute-Hour-Chrono hand are not original either.  The register hands may be replacements as well as I think their shape is not correct, but the picture is too poor to be able to be able to tell.

Many thanks for the information.

If I thought I could get hold of a NOS inner bezel I would maybe take a shot at it but in the absence of that it just isn't worth the money.

Happy New Year.

Neil.

ANOTHER informed collector! Just by asking before buying.

Its always better to ask before you buy nowadays.  Online sellers will often say "100% original", "NOS", "Mint", when none of those are the case. Questioning them about their statements AFTER the purchase will usually just start the excuse and deflection stream  ::)
