I just received this today:
A quick follow-up on your advice re getting my old Zodiac Sea Wolf repaired/serviced.
Got it back from BWG a few days ago in great working order and back into daily wear.
A few more notes on when I got it aboard the hospital ship USS Repose off Vietnam in 1968. I recall at the time the retail price for the Sea Wolf with date was $100 and the one I got without date was $90. It sticks in my memory because at the small PX on the ship it was half-off, i.e. $50 and $45 respectively.
Keep in mind at the time the base pay for a Marine private was only about $100. Even with combat pay and overseas allowance it was a pretty pricey watch for a private.
Find attached a photo of me wearing the watch. I know it's hard to make out but that's my Zodiac on left wrist. Photo was taken in mid-1969 at Vandegrift Combat Base, which was my unit's rear base just a few miles south of the DMZ.
Thanks again for the help.
Mike
YEP on the price in 1968! i paid 55.00 in the ft benning georgia PX. black dial with date. i just had BWG restore it about 2 years ago. it was my 23rd birthday present to myself, i deserved it since i had to spend my birthday in army basis training! brings back a lot of memories, some good, some not so good!
