Changing the case on a Gold Point Chrono

Started by Sea Wolf, January 08, 2012, 11:53:44 AM

Sea Wolf

I have a gold point chrono and I just purchased a NOS two tone case on the bay.
Zodiac never made a model of the gold point chrono with 2 tone case with black face.

I am thinking about doing it.  I did some photoshop work to see how it will look.

What do you guys think?  Leave it original all stainless or go with the franken model and do the 2 tone gold version?

Nice score. I was thinking about that case too. I like 2 tone cases for some watches and I think with a black dial that one would really look good. Go for it.
Best,

I would do it, I think it looks cool 8)
They don't all have to be original.

:ur  that would be a real nice swap, the  ss/gold would really pop with the black dial. i have the 90s auto sea wolf in stainless/gold with a white dial and it looks great, i get a lot of comments when i wear it! i think the black dial looks better than the white with the 2 tone. what the hell, if you are like me you will NEVER wear it enough to wear the gold plating off!! GO FOR  IT and enjoy, my friend.

You beat me on the case, if I would have seen it two hours earlier, I would have grabbed it. Do the swap, the dark colored faces on the two tone case are really good looking. Nice photoshop job, it shows well.

Thanks for the opinions guys.

The case arrives tomorrow and I'll send it off to BWG for the surgery.
My crown stem broke off again so I will see if he can fix that as well.

I was going to bid on that too!  I am sure it will turn out nice  :)

Sea Wolf

Just a little update on this project.

BWG sent the watch back to me and it will arrive tomorrow.

He found a Sapphire crystal perfect size match and put that on the new case.
He polished the stainless steel band to match the satin finish on the new case.
He found an original gold crown to go with the new case.  He also installed a new stem
and the watch functions perfectly now.  I guess the new case included guts that were needed for
the crown/stem to work.

Previously the watch crown/stem did not function and I would have to shake the watch at the exact time to get it going
in order to wear it.

Pics will be posted tomorrow.

Thank you Jon!  It has been a long time coming for this watch.  It was non functioning when I originally bought it
and now it has a new lease on life, even though it's a Franken, I love it.
