AS 1701 vs. 70, 70-72, 72b etc.

Hey all,
After buying several 70-72 and 72b seawolfs, i stumbled upon a very nice one with an AS 1701. It was a wonderful thing to restore a seawolf and not have to deal with an OCP. As far as the appearance of this movement, what was the time frame for these? Also, for any long time wearers/collectors, do you feel one way or the other regarding the AS 1701 vs. what i assume to be the later calibers?
