what year and model is this for?  :helpme

That's a seawolf box. I'm going to guess 1960s era. The later seawolf boxes had a graphic of a diver (see 202715281294 under closed auctions for an example). Overpriced. Seen the box + all tags go for $150-$200 range.

YuriyV

It is from early 1970s. For Bakelite SW

Butch, wouldn't be the first or last time that's true.  ;D Thanks for the correction.

Yuriy, what indicates that it's for a bakelite?

this leads me to another question why do you call it bakelite...isn't it an acrylic?

YuriyV

Agree, it is incorrect term. I prefer to call it just Plastic.

Butch

Ignorance? Technically is an acrylic resin.

Ultra-Vintage

I was going to correct the misnomer as soon as I saw it, but considered how rampant a falsehood it is I just didn't bother.  .01% of vintage watches actually have bakelite inserts in the bezel.  Most notably the Rolex 6542.  Bakelite could not withstand the damage a watch is subjected to.

Otherwise, watch bezel inserts are most commonly acrylic.  It can be damaged, but is overall much more durable.

radzod

Good discussion. Learned a few things. Personally, not a fan of the acrylic resin bezels.
