Hi everyone,

My nam is Mirek, from Poland. Finally I registered on this Zodiac's maniac forum (thanks Butch). I looking my watch long time and finally I got it. Gold plated Astrographic, poor condition, but my own holy grail  :D  Now my watch wait for inspection on hands my watchmaker.

It seems to me that the print on the "dials" is not original, the "hands" are thick, crooked and too close to each other. I must check this after dissasemble my watch.
I also have a question, in which year was the gold-plated envelope introduced for sale?

Thank you for your understanding with my English

All the best from Poland

Mirek

Are you asking when watches in general started being sold with gold plated cases? Or when was the Astrographic offered with a gold plated case?

You can post pictures of the dials and hands for us to see if you'd like.

I mean when gold plated Astrographic was offered on market.

Butch

Generally speaking, most Zodiacs were always offered in stainless steel or gold plating, including the Astorgraphics when it was first introduced in the very late 60's.

ok, thanks Butch, so I can think that my Astro is from 1969?

One more question, gold plated case original was shine or brushed? My is shine but on web I saw a lot pictures where case was gold but brushed. On one time was both versions: brushed and shine? I mean about square case.

Butch

That model was in production from the late 1960's through the 1970s, at least.

I don't have one here to check, but my guess is shiny in some areas and brushed in others.

BWG, what are your thoughts here?

As far as I know (and have confirmed with NOS cases I have seen), the gold square cases were finished like the steel ones:

-Top rim POLISHED
-Angled top BRUSHED (east to west)
-Sides BRUSHED (east to west)
-Bottom angle POLISHED
-Back of case body BRUSHED (north to south)

Caseback:

-Edges POLISHED
-Center SPUN-BRUSHED

Butch

Now THAT sir is attention to detail.

                :twothumbsup
