Hello Everybody,

I spent a few hours on this watch yesterday and here is my thinking, be gentle with me as I am not a specialist.

I opened this beauty in order to look at it... I was exepted a "17 Jewels 70 72 unajusted movement" from Zodiac but no... not at all... The movement is fairly different and I didn't find any olympos mystery dial with this movement on internet.

Inside a " 21 Jewels 86 ajusted movement" was waiting for me. I found A 86 movement Olympios but the movement was unajusted

Two solutions:

Solution 1: the Movement is not original and has been replaced... ( I am not very happy with that to be honest...)
Solution 2: This Olympos was made in 86 just before the 88D movement.

What do you thik guy?
Thank you very much

Go with Solution 1.  Per the service manuals on the other site, th 86 came out way after the "mystery dial" model ceased AND it had a date function. (!!)

Look at the bright side here though. It is still a Zodiac movement! Hopefully you did not pay too much fpr it. If so then just ignore the hurt to the value and enjoy the watch.

Even more: Zodiac 86 has higher beat rate than 70-72.
Good watch.

The movement you have pictured is not a caliber 86.  The caliber 86 has a smaller "weightless" balance wheel (no little screws on the balance wheel).  From your pictures, my guess is that is the correct original movement.

I base that on:

-The balance wheel is for the earlier 70-72 style movements
-The hands look to have the correct spacing for this model, the 86's usually have a longer minute wheel post that would not have worked when trying to fit these hands

My guess is that someone swapped out the entire rotor assembly or just the rotor when there were winding problems.  The olympos crowns are small and not easy to wind to begin with, and if the reverser wheels start freezing up it is nearly impossible to wind them.

And THIS is why we let Ultra-Vintage hang out with us.  Like you, I am stuck looking at the rotor.
