Hello,
My name is Jesús, and I am a young watch enthusiast who has recently purchased my first Zodiac watch, a vintage Sea Wolf. I am very excited about it and I am trying to learn as much as possible about its history and originality.
The reference/serial number on the case is 1986488, and the movement is marked 72B.
There is one particular detail I would be very grateful to hear your opinion about. The luminous material on the hands is noticeably darker than the lume on the hour markers of the dial. Do you think this difference in colour could simply be due to different ageing, or could it indicate that the dial and hands use different luminous materials?
In particular, do you believe the lume is radium or tritium? I would also be very interested to know whether this difference between the colour of the hands and the indices is something you have seen on other Zodiac Sea Wolf examples from this period.
Thank you very much for your time and for any information or opinion you may be able to provide. As this is my first Zodiac, any help in understanding the watch better would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Jesus, congratulations! Thank you for joining. It is tritium. The dial was probably replaced somewhere along the way. They used to send them back to Switzerland for a sercice and parts were plentiful back then, not so much today. There is a search feature at the top of this page to find out more.

[cita autor=Butch link=msg=16853 fecha=1786184608] Hola, Jesús, ¡felicidades!
Thank you so much for your reply. The dial was already marked as tritium, but what caught my attention was the difference in colour between the lume on the dial and the hands.
From what I've been able to find out, I believe the watch dates from around the mid-1960s.
I hope I'll be able to share more Zodiac watches with you in the future. I'm very grateful to the whole community for your help! ✋🏻
Greetings from Spain 🇪🇸
That's from the 70's. Give me the serial number between the lugs under the 6.
[cita autor=Butch link=msg=16855 fecha=1786292583] Eso es de los años 70. Dame el número de serie entre las orejetas debajo del 6. [/cita]
"¿Es este el que aparece entre las orejetas 1986488?"
Best guess is 1968 sir.
[cita autor=Butch link=msg=16857 fecha=1786356957] La mejor suposición es 1968, señor. [/cita]
Gracias por todo, ha sido muy amable !!!
De nada.
