I thought I needed a Sea Wolf...or two.
« on: July 27, 2015, 10:23:24 PM »
My involvement with Zodiac watches, and this site, started when I wanted to recondition the '68 vintage GMT that went through two tours in Vietnam with me.  Once that watch was done, the watchmaker had some parts left from the "parts" watches I bought on the bay and I had them make another GMT for me.  Somewhere along the way the Zodiac bug bit me and as Butch cautions us "it's not for the meek".  Well, those two GMT's sprouted into Sea Wolf Professionals and  Chronographs but I never got involved with the vintage Sea Wolf, until now.  Here are two recent additions, and the cause for me to get another winder.
First up is a vintage Sea Wolf that I was fortunate to get from Raimond at Paul's Watch and Clock Repair.  Thanks to David (VZ'er DMH), I was able to purchase from him an original Zodiac signed JB Champion bracelet for it.
The second Sea Wolf is a vintage two tone that I feel very fortunate to have been able to purchase from David (VZ'er DMH).  I sent it out to Andy at Ultra-Vintage and in addition to a service I think he did a beautiful job reconditioning the watch.  You can see that it has an original 14Kt gold filled, Zodiac signed, JB Champion bracelet in very good condition. UV also cleaned up the gold on the dial face and relumed the hands and hour markers. I am very happy with these two additions to my assortment.  Notice that I did not refer to it as a "collection"!

Wow, two gorgeous Zodiacs. Can't make a decision which I like better. Great job keeping the vintage feel on both those. Love the nickeling on the black face bezel and the "aged" lume on both.
Congrats!

Butch and Cobber,
Thanks for your comments.  I enjoy wearing the black dial almost daily but I'm too cautious to take the two-tone out into the mean streets where it might get scratched. One of these days.......       ;)

:pimp; :woohoo; those are some fine examples for sure!! they are really good looking and restorations did great. I have a black dial sea wolf that I treasure from my military tour.it has been restored and I give it a little time on my wrist every so often. I am not real pleased with the brassing on the bezel, I understand UV can re plate these to look like an original. I may get with him on a price and pop it off and send it to the zodiac hospital. the rest looks great but the normal amount of wear on the bezel detracts from the overall looks. congrats on your new family members, you done good!!

Hi Jon,
Glad to hear that you like the "new to me" Sea Wolfs.  I remember seeing pictures of your original black dial Sea Wolf; it is a good looking watch.  Show us some pictures after the bezel gets the U-V treatment; I'll bet it will look great!   :twothumbsup
